It’s been almost a year now of nurturing my hair in its natural state. My goal in starting this was simply to learn how to take care of my hair. I have reaped the fruits of being consistent in this. In addition to the benefits of healthy hair growth; I have noticed that I love my hair more. I realized that previously I used to treat it like a bother. I liked when it looked nice but dreaded the process of getting it to look nice. It took one year of choosing everyday to do the steps of oiling, washing and conditioning it for me to grow into enjoying the process. I used to think that I neither had the time nor the skills, now I know that that’s not true.

As I reflect on the hair care journey, I see the patience/perseverance that ties in with consistency. Many times, it wasn’t convenient for me to go through the hair care processes and the results of what I was doing weren’t evident everyday. But I did it anyway and here we are. Consider the perfect example, Jesus Christ who “for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work] (Hebrews 12:2 AMP).”

I think about what consistency would look like in various aspects of daily life. If we chose to consistently,

What would we learn about ourselves? What would we get better at? What would we realize was possible all this while? What would we realize was not actually necessary? How quickly would we achieve our goals?
